52 weeks of Wolf : 19.52 + the view from 36 inches

I’m excited to share with you two videos of Wolf today along with our usual weekly photo.  this past month, I partnered with Seventh Generation for their Campaign for a Toxin-Free Generation.  the campaign is designed to celebrate how liberating life can be without toxins, not only for us as parents but especially for those little guys.  you know, the ones that are 36 inches tall.

Seventh Generation offers truly effective home, body and baby care products that are free of parabens, 1,4-dioxane, or other concerning ingredients.  and if you’re a parent of a toddler, you know good and well that life can get pretty messy and involve lots of clean up.  it’s comforting to know that the products I’m using to clean our home {or Wolf for that matter} are safe and toxin-free.

Seventh Generation invited me to participate in their campaign and sent us a GoPro camera to get a glimpse of life from Wolf’s view at 36 inches.  we got outside.  we rode bikes rather than driving.  we let him get dirty.  and we lived toxin-free.  I hope you enjoy!

would you like to participate too?  post a video or photo of your kids being kids and Seventh Generation will donate $1 in your name to Women’s Voices for the Earth (WVE)*.  WVE strives to create a world in which everyone lives in a healthy environment, free from chemicals of concern. *up to $15,000

wow.  this has been a rough week.  my almost two year old is definitely showing his almost two year old colors.  tantrums, screaming and the opinions!!  his newest phrase of choice is “don’t like it.”  for everything.  just when I thought things were getting easier.

thankfully, this little grump let me chase him around with my camera today.  so I leave you with not only one photo this week, but a few.

today this kid is 23 months old.  I can’t believe how close we are to two.

this week I signed him up at a little Waldorf preschool starting in the fall.  just two days a week to start.  I’m excited and I think he is, too.  at least, he cried big tears when we had to leave after our visit.

the amount of emotion I’ve had about him turning two is incredible.  I thought one was a big deal… but two?  SUCH a big deal.  he’s just so grown up!  at two, he’s officially not a baby anymore.  he’s a big kid.  and he does big kid stuff!  the other night I may have shed a tear when he looked up at me from his crib and said, “I love you Mama.”  I smiled and said, “I love you too, Monkey.”

I’ve missed a few weeks here.  you’d think that having a new camera would make me take MORE photos, right?  well life gets in the way of life sometimes.

I wanted to comment on my previous 52 weeks post.  you know, the one back in March where I talked about Wolf and preschool and the alphabet and such.  I had a nasty comment that thankfully required approval before it published on the blog that I ultimately deleted…  (more…)

“A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013.”

this kid, I tell ya.  he’s just so charming.  anywhere we go these days, he’s saying hi to people and smiling at everyone.  especially little old ladies and pretty little girls.  I’m sure I’ll have my hands full with this one.  ;)

we’ve been thinking about preschool lately.  since Wolf already knows all his numbers, letters, colors and shapes, it’s for enforcing what he already knows but also for social interaction and manners.  the kid does NOT mind me.  at all.  {and it’s infuriating!}  he’s got his own agenda.  there’s a summer program that starts in June that I’m considering two days a week.  I have to admit, I’d miss him in the mornings but it would be nice to have a little break.  we’re going to visit the school next week so we’ll know more then.

“A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013.”

oh man.  what a rough week this was!!  Wolf had a terrible time re-adjusting to his schedule after our trip and is finally showing signs that he’s back on track.  he forgot that he knew how to fall asleep with no tears and decided that 10pm was a good bedtime rather than 8!

but despite the tears we’ve had this week, we’ve had plenty of laughter and lots of smiles.  and singing!  while we were on our trip, Wolf started singing songs, Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Jingle Bells and the cutest of all – his ABCs.  I’ve been trying to capture him singing for days now on video and finally was able to sneak up behind him yesterday and shoot this gem:

Wolf sings the ABCs

dang, I’m a proud mama.  and to think, this is just the beginning.  if you’d like to see more photos from previous weeks, you can see them below the cut.

“A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013.”

the other day I decided to dig my beloved keyboard out of it’s hiding spot in the garage and let Wolf play.  he flipped.  and even though most of the time he’s playing with the metronome or plopping down on the low notes with the volume all the way up, I think he’s really appreciating it.  he dances when I play or he sits down next to me and we bang out a little duet.  I have no idea when he’ll actually be able to understand the piano or let me teach him a few things but I can’t wait.

Mr. Independent!!  this week I took Wolf to the park and we walked along the river.  most days he’ll let me hold his hand but he definitely knows the difference between hand holding when we’re walking into the grocery store and hand holding when we’re on an awesome walk along the river.  and he can run!!  and explore!!  and pick up rocks to throw and put in his mouth… yea, we’re working on that one.
