inspired by Jamie’s montage of H photos, I bring you insta.wolf.  I’ve tried so hard not to bombard you with photos of Wolf but it’s so dang hard when you’re always around someone so cute!

happy 4th friends!

baby wolf

we’re in Idaho visiting family this week.  forgive me if I spend a little time hanging out with this cutie and his aunts, uncles, grandparents and great grandparents.  {plus, we have no internet! I should be happy to be off the grid but it’s driving me crazy.}  here are some photos from our trip so far.

see you next week!

p.s.  this is what Wolf thinks about fireworks.  not so happy.  ;)

I’m always a fan of utilitarian style bags.  these bags from sketchbook are to die for.  I’m tempted to buy this one for a diaper bag.

plus, more non-diaper bag options!

guest post: outfitting summer (for a new, nursing mom)

during my maternity leave, I asked a few of my favorite mamas and mamas-to-be to kindly step in with some fun guest posts to keep you company

Hi there!  This is Ashley with Hither Thither and Baby Mine.  I’ve been following along throughout Alyson’s pregnancy, looking forward to meeting her little man and picking up any tips I could along the way for when our little fella makes his debut this summer!

nursing outfit

While I know those first weeks might mean reaching for comfy yoga pants and nursing tanks, here’s an outfit I’m adding to my summer wish-list that might help a new, nursing mom feel a little more glamorous.

The requirements? Nothing silky or dry-clean only. Something with easy access. And a summer-weight scarf for the option of added modesty.

The inspiration? An APC tunic dress ensemble from Totokaelo. I’ve added a hat for camouflaging unwashed hair; dark sunglasses for hiding tired eyes–and cool factor; and drawstring pants in case the chambray shirt-dress feels a little short some days. (Here’s a pretty but practical nude nursing bra to pair with it–or a lacier number from Elle Macpherson’s line.)

Congratulations, Alyson and Levi–
I’m so excited for both of you!

guest post: gifts for a wee baby boy

hello all! i am mrs. french from bliss and i couldn’t be happier to be here and under these circumstances! i am not such a fan of the typical baby shower; party games and too much attention make me a bit nervous. however, i do love to shower my mother-to-be-friends with gifts. i so wish i could go crazy and give them everything i find fitting for the new tiny addition…the beauty of the blog world, is that i can compile a list of sweet things and share all of them this way. which is why i am thrilled to offer up these little virtual gifts to alyson and her wee baby boy:

wagon sweater

guest post: the nursing basket

Hello unruly things readers!  This is Jamie with A Desert Fete.

I have a little nugget of practical advice for all you soon-to-be or newish mom’s out there.

In the last few months of my pregnancy we, like most, took a number of classes on pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for babies. Some were super helpful, some were duds. (But that is another post.)

Our breastfeeding class was spot on. We left wanting more, but only because 2 hours was such a short time for such an important subject, and the lactation consultant who taught it packed in so much good info. Here was our favorite concept.

It is a scene well played in our household. (Ten fold in the later months of pregnancy, but I am completely guilty of it as a regular old non pregnant lady.) One becomes settled on the sofa, in bed, on the yoga mat…. and you realize you forgot a glass of water. Or your book. Or the remote. Then comes “Sweetie….? Could you bring me my….” Now imagine being settled with your little one happily latched on for supper. Maybe no one is even home to call on, and you realize you forgot your lip balm, and your lips are languishing in a desert of dryness. The horror! Enter:

nursing

Our instructor suggests keeping a basket handy that you always have by your side when about to nurse. It includes essentials for you, for example:

-a one handed read (ha)
-bottle of water
-snack
-phone
-iPad (lucky)

and for the little one

-a blanket (in case we fall asleep and want to stay there)
-a diaper & wipes for a quick change
-a burp cloth
-your feeding log (for the first weeks)

you get the idea.

Now go forth! Make your own list of must haves, then find yourself a nursing basket, fill it, and be prepared always! A few to get you started:
