family adventures made easy with Ergobaby and Orbit Baby

family adventure | photos by Alyson Brown in collaboration with Ergobaby & Orbit Baby for Unruly Things

over the weekend we went on a little family adventure to Dillon Falls, one of our favorite hiking spots along the Deschutes River. it’s just minutes outside of Bend and open year round when most other hikes are closed due to snow. it’s an easy hike and has incredibly rewarding views.

one of the most useful things in my opinion when hiking with a new baby is the Ergobaby carrier. we used one with Wolf from day one up until out grew it and wanted to run along side us on the hike. Ergobaby makes a handy infant insert to keep even the tiniest baby snug. it offers head and neck support for wobbly newborns and a pillow at the base of the insert to make sure they are ergonomically seated. and, it works with every carrier so you’ll never need anything different. my newest carrier is the Bundle of Joy package, which includes the carrier and insert – and makes a perfect gift for any expecting mama.

and since it seems that my babies always fall asleep in the carrier, the Ergo to carseat transfer needs to be smooth. enter the Orbit Baby infant carseat system. it’s incredible. the revolutionary SmartHub ring allows you to dock and harness the carseat from a sideways position – meaning, the carseat is facing you while you strap the baby in. then it rotates into the rear-facing position. so easy. I never thought I’d be so excited about a carseat!! but seriously – it’s a life changer.

pajar boots

pajar rain boots

while living in Portland, rain boots were essential. I had a few different pairs but I was always on the lookout for more stylish and affordable boots. these brights from Pajar are wonderful. I just love that red!

and now that I’m living in Bend, snow boots are my every day winter essential. I’ve got the old fasioned clunky ones that I wear when it’s icy and a shearling pair for super cold days. Pajar has a lovely collection of winter boots, too. here’s a few great ones I spied.

scenes from our weekend : adventure to Todd Lake

bits of our weekend : adventure to Todd Lake | photos by Alyson Brown for Unruly Things over the weekend we headed to one of our very favorite nearby hikes – Todd Lake. I always describe this hike as magical because it’s just that. exciting for all ages, especially kiddos.

this time of year the wildflowers are in full bloom, which Wolf adores. and what’s even more exciting is that there are thousands of tadpoles in the lake. they’re illegal to take home, but plenty of fun to gently poke at and scoop into little hands to be put back into the water safely. we all wore our Tevas and waded around in the water which was a blast. next time I think we’ll take out bathing suits, at least one for Wolf since he was soaking wet by the end of the hike.

I definitely recommend Todd Lake to any newcomers or visitors to Bend. the views are outstanding and the hike is one of the best around.

wolf : 0652 + epic snow

unruly things : wolf 0652, photo by Alyson Brown

we had snow this weekend, of seriously epic proportions.  as the snow kept piling and piling up outside, I kept giggling to myself and thinking, is this real?!  over all I think we got around 25 inches.  that’s over 2 feet, you guys!  it was mind blowing.  and boy did we take advantage of it!!

we built a snow cave, rode on the neighbors snow mobiles, busted out the ski attachment for Wolf’s bike, went sledding, hunting for buried toys in the backyard, made snow angels.  it was SO fun.  I felt like a little kid all weekend, giddy with excitement!

now the snow is melting and the roads are a slushy mess.  but it was so much fun while it lasted.

we’re here!

bend

hi friends!!  we’re in Bend and even though we’ve only been here a week, we’re loving every minute of our new life.  the sunshine – oh the sunshine!!  the mountains!  and of course – my new job as a stay at home mom extraordinaire.  which I think is pretty amazing so far.  our place is above and beyond what we had before in Portland.  huge backyard {hello summer bbqs!}, giant kitchen and a vast living space.  we need a few things like a tv stand, cocktail table and rug, but all of that will come in time.  for now, I won’t bombard you with too many photos, but if you’d like to follow along on instagram, my user name is unrulythings.

hooray for change!
