hello + goodbye

unruly things / hello + goodbye

hello friends! I suppose by now you’ve noticed the radio silence in this little space. the funny thing about blogging is even though you’re loving it while you’re in it, you keep wondering how long you’ll keep doing it and if or when you’ll stop? my life is going so fast these days and the direction that I’m going isn’t toward blogging. it’s really sad and a super tough decision that I’ve made but my heart just isn’t in this place any more. Unruly Things has been a labor of love for nearly NINE YEARS. I’ve made incredible friends and have developed fabulous partnerships with many amazing sponsors and shops. I have ideas of blogging in the future but for now, I bid you adieu.

so while this is a goodbye to this blog, it’s not a total goodbye. please keep in touch, friends! I’ll miss this place dearly but I hope that you’ll continue to follow our family adventures on Instagram. I’m there, almost daily, posting snippets of our life in Oregon along with fun things like the occasional giveaway or discount. adios amigos!

our adventure to Crater Lake

Crater Lake Adventure | photos by Alyson Brown for Unruly Things

last weekend we took a spontaneous trip to Crater Lake. after living in Oregon for over 7 years, it was about time we made the adventure! it’s about a 2 hour drive from Bend and perfect for a day trip. at 36 weeks pregnant, it’s hard to know how much time we’ll have left for adventuring before this babe arrives, so we packed up a lunch and headed out mid morning.

I’d always pictured going to the lake would be just that. you show up, take a few photos and go home. I had no idea that you could take the 33 mile drive around the lake in it’s entirety, while taking in each stop and lookout along the way. so we spent the entire day exploring. and the views are breathtaking. these pictures just don’t even do it justice. we’ve had quite a few wildfires this summer so it was a bit of a bummer that we didn’t catch it on a super clear and sunny day, but you could still see how incredibly blue the water is.

if you’ve got an opportunity to make it to Crater Lake, I highly recommend. it’s one of those natural wonders that is just so magical, it should be on everyone’s bucket list.

scenes from our weekend : adventure to Todd Lake

bits of our weekend : adventure to Todd Lake | photos by Alyson Brown for Unruly Things over the weekend we headed to one of our very favorite nearby hikes – Todd Lake. I always describe this hike as magical because it’s just that. exciting for all ages, especially kiddos.

this time of year the wildflowers are in full bloom, which Wolf adores. and what’s even more exciting is that there are thousands of tadpoles in the lake. they’re illegal to take home, but plenty of fun to gently poke at and scoop into little hands to be put back into the water safely. we all wore our Tevas and waded around in the water which was a blast. next time I think we’ll take out bathing suits, at least one for Wolf since he was soaking wet by the end of the hike.

I definitely recommend Todd Lake to any newcomers or visitors to Bend. the views are outstanding and the hike is one of the best around.

q&a with Garmentory

q&a at garmentory | unruly things

the ladies at Garmentory asked me a few questions about my favorite things. read my Q&A here.

speaking of Garmentory, have you ever heard of it? it’s is a fantastic site which offers clothing from various boutiques and brands at discounted prices. see something you like? make an offer on it. if your offer is accepted, your item will ship directly from that boutique and if not, try again! such an amazing concept. here’s a few things that I’m eyeing.

Wolf and the blue bike

Wolf and the blue bike | photo by Alyson Brown for Unruly Things

this weekend, Wolf graduated to a shiny new blue bike for his birthday – the Specialized Hotrock 12 – and he’s pretty stoked about it. he picked up pedaling faster than I thought he would! the brakes are still a little tricky for him but he’s getting there. I imagine those training wheels will be off before no time.

if you follow me on Instagram, you’re probably familiar with my Wolf hashtags. #hellomynameiswolf, #wolfupinthesky and #wolfandtheredbike to name a few. I started a new hashtag – #wolfandthebluebike if you’d like to follow along.
