little things : orin’s space

little things : orin's space | photography by Alyson Brown for @unrulythings

when I was 17 weeks pregnant with Orin, I began sleeping in our guest room. once the bump started getting bigger, I was just plain uncomfortable sharing the queen sized bed with Levi. I was using three or four pillows for support and that just didn’t work. plus, we knew this would be the baby’s space once he arrived and I already planned on spending his first few months by his side.

I had many visions of how this space would come together. since this is a shared space, we didn’t want too many baby focused things but rather a simple coordinated look. ultimately the styling revolved around a beautiful vintage kantha blanket I found and it went from there. I just love how bright this space is! indigo blue is one of my very favorite colors and I had fun collecting things to go in the room.

Orin will eventually sleep in his crib but for now he’s sleeping in the moses basket, which was first Wolf’s! {side note – for those of you with more than one kiddo, how fun is it to see hand-me-downs used by your second child?} when he’s ready for his crib, we’ll probably move a twin sized bed into this tiny room so that it’s not jam packed. I hunted and hunted for a simple mobile but didn’t find anything that I liked, or could afford, so I decided to make my own inspired by one I’d found on Pinterest. it was super easy to make and lots of fun to put together. Wolf even helped!

we picked out the Babyletto changing table from Diapers.com since it converts to a dresser once you no longer need the changing portion. the natural wood works so well with the moses basket and I love it’s semi mid-century look. I can see it being in Orin’s room for awhile! the flokati rug is also from Serena & Lily. it’s super soft and cozy and just perfect for playtime.

now that the weather is getting cooler, we’ve been spending a lot of time snuggling in warm knits and under cozy blankets. I got this amazing ace & jig duster from the folks at Accompany. it’s simply perfect for lazy mornings.

I’ve been obsessing over the fragrances from Commodity for a little while now. the branding is incredible and the scents, with names like Gin, Moss, Book and Tea, are completely intriguing. I love that they handcraft their fragrances using premium ingredients in small batches, leaving more room for attention to detail and perfection. and I especially love that you can test out, every scent from their men’s or women’s collection for only $9.

I was thrilled when Commodity contacted me to ask if I’d be interested in receiving one of their fitting kits to test out their different scents. now, I have to be honest. I am not much of a perfume wearer. I used to be, then for what ever reason I stopped wearing it. then I had a hard time finding a new scent that I loved that didn’t give me a headache. I’ve got a sensitive nose I suppose. but I was up for a challenge and truly loved their concept.

my favorites were Paper, Pinot and Rain, but ultimately I ended up loving a men’s scent the best: Whiskey. it’s warm and inviting, like a good Whiskey drink. I’ve been wearing it every single day and since I’m pregnant, I figured, when you can’t drinking, wear it.

for a limited time, Commodity is offering 55% off their 100ml bottles. that’s one incredible deal, you guys! enter code SOMUCHWIN at checkout.

wearing : my favorite earrings

unruly things : my favorite earrings | photo by Alyson Brown

over the years, my style has become a lot more simplified.  and one of the ways that I’ve toned down what I’m wearing is by building a little collection of mostly stud earrings.  I found out quickly that while wearing shiny, dangling earrings with a tiny baby was a blast for him, the tugging on my ears was not.  so my dangling earrings dwindled and studs came pouring in.  these are my faves which I rotate on a daily basis.

outside circle : Satomi Kawakita diamond studs, BLTN green tourmaline studs, Jennie Kwon custom reset white & black diamond earrings, Jennie Kwon triangle studs
inside circle : Satomi Kawakita twin pearl studs, Fay Andrada Nasta earrings, my beloved emerald-cut garnets which I received as a highschool graduation gift
and that sweet little wooden bowl I keep them in is from Herriott Grace.

my fall essentials

unruly things / fall essentials

I spend all summer dreading the days when the temps begin to drop, but in reality, I love fall.  secretly I am excited to pull out my boots and cozy up in a big sweater.  fall weather where I live in Bend can be tricky, so I’ve had to master the art of layering.  it can be super chilly in the mornings then warm up significantly during the day.  my favorite thing to wear in the fall are simple tees, a long thick sweater and leggings with boots.

what are your fall essentials?

one : edith miller striped boatneck tee / two : zara long sweater with turn over collar / three : fay andrada nasta earrings / four : clare vivier la posta bag / five : gap knit leggings / six : butter london gobsmacked polish / seven : salt braun optical glasses / eight : happy socks cheetah socks / nine : alima pure fig lip tint / ten : barr co. hand salve / eleven : la botte gardiane ankle boots

I don’t even remember how I first discovered Hackwith Design House but I’ve since come to love the brand and every piece they’ve designed.  their fall collection is centered around limited edition pieces, which they have released every Monday since September.  I started haunting their Instagram account as they began debuting new things into their collection.  I found myself loving each one so you can imagine how hard it was to contain my excitement when the Hackwith gals contacted me to partner with them on the release of one of their limited edition pieces.

the top they sent me is the Burnt Sienna and mine is number 3/14!  the bleach spots are so unique and I love how versatile the top is.  it’s just so so good.  I could easily dress it up or down and I see it becoming a staple in my wardrobe.  thanks so much to the ladies behind Hackwith Design House for sending it to me.

show me your stack : alyson brown

Unruly Things / Show Me Your Stack :: Alyson Brown

you guys, I’ve been dying to share my stack with you and have finally gotten the chance.  I’ve been awed at the response for this series and the incredible stacks that have been sent my way.  there sure are some beautiful rings out there!!  here are some details about my stack…

I wear my rings every day.  I wear them while I’m working out, cooking, sleeping, showering, swimming, hiking… you name it.  I do, however, take off my tiniest rings while I’m sleeping because after temporarily loosing one in the bed at night, I decided that was best.  the rest are permanent fixtures on my fingers and that’s what has been so important to me in developing my look.

my stack has taken me years to perfect, starting with my gorgeous engagement ring.  it’s a grey rose cut diamond from Kate Szabone.  I adore the ring so, so much, and naturally the significance that it represents.  it’s created the mood for my stack and I’ve built my collection around it.  with my engagement ring I’m wearing the black diamond circle eternity band by my friend Satomi Kawakita and one of the gathered rings from my friend Jen of Takara.

Unruly Things / Show Me Your Stack :: Alyson Brown

on my left pointer finger I’m wearing the Milkyway topaz ring from Julie Cohn and the sapphire Dais band from Bario Neal.  since both of my parent’s birthdays are in September, I got the sapphire band to honor them.

the top two rings on my right middle finger are also by Satomi Kawakita: her signature hexagon diamond ring and a tiny emerald – Wolf’s birthstone.  Satomi sent me the emerald ring after Wolf was born.  she sweetly engraved his name, birthdate and time of birth on the inside of the band.  on my right ring finger is the sterling silver Klaia triangle ring by Odette, a beaded gold band from The Philippines and my original wedding band from Kate.  I love the dimension and texture that these three add to my stack.

my tiniest rings that I wear are my middle finger diamond knuckle cuff ring from Jennie Kwon and my pinky ring from Porter Gulch.  I fell in love with Jennie’s collaboration with Of A Kind but it sold out so fast, so I contacted her directly and she made me a custom ring, similar to the one at OAK.  I found the moissanite pinky ring on Scoutmob Shoppe and it’s by Porter Gulch.

and there you have it – my stack!  and you know what’s funny?  even though I feel like my stack is complete, I’m constantly browsing for additional rings to add to it.  I can’t help it.  I’m hopelessly addicted to rings and have been for years!  if you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’re familiar with my ring category, which dates back to 2008! if you’re new – check it out!  you won’t be disappointed.

thank you again for your excitement about this series!  I’m completely booked up to the middle of November with gorgeous stacks lined up but feel free to send me an email with your stack photo for consideration.
