last week we were hit hard with around 10 inches of snow. enough for cabin fever to set in. this week with warmer temps, the roads are crazy icy, leaving us home most nights. which is fine by me! one of my favorite things to do in the winter is to snuggle up on the couch with a blanket, glass of wine and a good movie. it’s even more fun as a whole family. here’s a few things to make the best movie night ever.
one : an alpaca throw to snuggle under / two : olive wood nesting bowls for snacking / three : wine glasses and a nice bottle of wine for mom and dad / four : a cozy bear for the kiddos / five : wool booties for baby / six : wool booties for you / seven : a big pillow for lounging on the floor / eight : hot cocoa for the kiddos from a fun mug
and of course, a good movie or two.
it was 10 degrees outside this morning when I woke up. I peeked at my closet and thinking about bundling up felt a little lackluster in my black down jacket and blue jeans. leave it to J. Crew to have me feeling perky about winter. these pieces are too good not to share, plus nearly everything pictured here is an additional 25% off right now with the code SHOPNOW. win!
one : collection sweatshirt / two : thin shaped hoops / three : ribbed pom-pom hat / four : embroidered wool scarf / five : high-rise jeans / six : ribbed glittens / seven : canyon crossbody bag / eight : nike blazer mid-vintage sneakers / nine : shiny puffer
even though most retail sites have moved onto spring, it’s still ridiculously cold around the country. January is a month of hibernation for me. the hustle and bustle of the holidays is behind me and I tend to spend the month relaxing while keeping warm. I thought I’d share my winter essentials.
what are your winter essentials?
one : a cozy puff jacket / two : warm wool sweaters / three : a scarf that doubles as a blanket / four : tiny stud earrings / five : bronzer for keeping that summer glow/ six : a large mug / seven : for drinking my favorite chai / eight : something to feel special with on date nights / nine : a kindle for afternoons reading on the couch / ten : the warmest boots with good traction for icy days / eleven : boot friendly jeans that make you feel sexy
one of my absolute favorite winter drinks is mulled wine. a few weeks ago, while the snow was falling in buckets and the temps were barely reaching over 10 degrees, I made a little batch. I may have even enjoyed some at 4 in the afternoon. hey, it was Friday plus I’d been smelling it mulling on the stove for over an hour. :)
Country Living asked me to submit one of my favorite winter drinks for their blog, so hop on over for the recipe.

you know the feeling when you stumble upon something new and fantastic and you can hardly contain your excitement? that’s the feeling I got when I discovered this brand new etsy shop, Little Bear Pots. I must have raved to Levi about them too because Christmas came early in the shape of a new mug. looking forward to adding a few more of Lindsey’s pieces to my collection.
Portland winter days are a filled with a dreary misty rain more often than not. sometimes that rain is combined with wind that usually turns an umbrella inside out. I quickly learned that a wool coat with a hood is an absolute must. I’ve got a charcoal grey coat that I’ve had for two winters but I’d like another so I can have more of a rotation. these two duffle coats are topping my list.
