I was pregnant when I pre-ordered this dress from the Fall 2011 Portland Collection line, therefore was unable to try it on to see what size would fit best. when it arrived, I loved it so much that I refused to admit I probably needed a Medium, so I took it home. it’s been worn two or three times and I’ve decided it’s just too small and time to let it go. it’s a small and would probably fit a 2/4 best. I’m selling it here if you’re interested. sold – thanks!
in other Portland Collection news, you can catch me on the Portland Collection blog today, wearing this same dress in black!

before you ask – no, today is not my birthday. but it’s coming up later this month and it’s a big one. the first into a new decade. I’m convinced that the best is yet to come so I’m embracing it with open arms.
every year, dlb and I bake a cake for each other’s birthday. last year it was a simple vanilla cake with chocolate frosting for me and carrot cake for him. the other day he asked me what kind of cake I’d like so my mind has been swirling with ideas. I’m all about a big cake, puffed to the max with sugar and cream, but I though I’d attempt to find something a little healthier. {couldn’t hurt, right?} I love the looks of these cakes from Roost, especially that Almond & Cherry Upside Down Cake.
what’s your favorite kind of cake?

one of my resolutions is to be a better note writer and to find a good set of personalized stationery. with that in mind, I put together a guest post for the Etsy blog on cards and calendars for the new year. have a look!

life has gotten to be so amazing {and let’s face it – BUSY} these days that I’ve hardly had time to post. please excuse me while I take a wee blogging break to regroup. I’m working with a special lady on a redesign for UT and I’ve got plans for new columns this year. I’ll post when I’ve got something amazing to share so I won’t be completely gone, I just feel like I needed to say that I’m taking a break so I don’t feel this incredible guilt for leaving you hanging all the time.
if you’d like to follow a little bit of my life, please do on instagram. I’ve taken posting to be a little bit like mini blogging and do so many times a week. my username is unrulythings or if you’re not an iphone user, follow me here.
you can also follow me on twitter or pinterest.

I love the space inhabited by John and Arounna of Bookhou at Home. so bright and vibrant and filled with lovely vintage decor.

you’re already off to a great start.
this year I’ve decided to actually make resolutions. often I come up with a little list of goals for myself upon the new year and then soon forget them or revert back to my old ways. but something about the dawning of a new year really got me. my life until now has been pretty darn amazing but as I see it – the best is yet to come. I’m extremely grateful for everything and everyone in my life and I’m excited to continue to prosper and grow. here’s a few of my resolutions:
• be nicer to the world. sometimes I can be quite bitter. the way I see it is, we only have so many days on this earth, why not live them happily and to the fullest?
• develop a new routine. the gym, getting up early, crafting, healthy eating… what ever it might be, just pick it and stick to it.
happy new year friends! what are some of your resolutions?

on New Year’s Eve, I dream about getting all glammed up in a glittery dress and hitting the fanciest parties in town. more often than not I end up celebrating more casually however if I were given the chance to dress up, this is what I might wear.
thanks to all my wonderful guest bloggers!! I hope your holidays were merry and bright and here’s to a wonderful year ahead. chat with you next week, friends!

while I’m on my winter vacation in sunny Florida, I’ve asked a few of my stylish friends to share their perfect holiday outfit. this outfit is from Jessica of The Shiny Squirrel.
my dream holiday outfit would probably be for dinner in my neighborhood at Diner in Williamsburg and then drinks with friends at my favorite bar, Hotel Delmano with some mixed olives and a beautiful gin cocktail called the San Francisco Handshake.
